Karl Lagerfeld to collaborate with… Louis Vuitton?

Chanel’s main man Karl Lagerfeld is reported to have been tapped by rival luxury giant Louis Vuitton to reimagine its world-famous, century-old brown and gold monogram in celebration of the French maison’s 160th anniversary this year.

Lagerfeld joins five other artists and designers in Louis Vuitton’s “The Icons and Iconoclasts” project – Cindy Sherman, Frank Gehry, Christian Louboutin, Rei Kawakubo, and Marc Newson. Their task is to dream up “the most desirable icon in the world.” Something more desirable than a monogrammed Vuitton, a piece just about every stylephile owns? Bring it!

There are no images of the collection as of now, but we hear it is due to be released in November 2014. A whole advertising campaign, commemorative book and microsite will be unveiled with the launch of the collection.

If you’re dying to know what Karl is planning to contribute to the project, well, prepare yourself for a monogrammed Louis Vuitton punching bag. It won’t come cheap though, as the pieces coming out of this project will have a starting retail price of $2,725 (Dh 10,028), all the way up to $5,450 (Dh 20,056).
