Wearable art gallery The cARTel opens in Dubai
An entire boutique dedicated to avant-garde fashion? Probably something that would only fly in Dubai, and we’re loving the fact that we now have one here. The cARTel, the city’s first curated art gallery, has opened its doors to art and fashion lovers alike on the up and coming Al Serkal avenue.
Conceptualized by Peter Richweisz, veteran photographer and filmmaker, the wearable art gallery is the first of its kind in the UAE, and is home to unique and crafted wearable designs from over 30 international artists and fashion designers .
Shub Qureshi, co-Founder of the cARTel commented: “The UAE is internationally recognized as one of the top consumer markets in the world, particularly when it comes to fashion. The cARTel will bring to the UAE cutting-edge designers from around the world.”
“Right now, in this cosmopolitan metropolis, we believe there is a gap in the market between high street and high-end, to cater to the avant-garde individualists. There is a lack of alternative concept-based shopping experiences, where style connoisseurs try to find their way off the beaten path of retail. These collections are far from the mass-produced and cookie-cutter designs currently available in the market.”
The cARTel showroom is located at the art hub destination of Al Serkal Avenue, which has monthly gallery openings, inviting over 1,500 art lovers to visit over 19 of some of Dubai’s most popular art galleries.
From the beaches of Miami to the skyscrapers of Tokyo, The cARTel’s hand-selected designers all bring a unique story to the gallery, and are pleased to be exhibiting their clothing and accessories at the avant-garde showroom and boutique in Al Quoz.
To mark the occasion, a contemporary event was held to unveil the exhibit and allow visitors to shop the collection for the first time. The event brought together the concepts of fashion and art under one roof, and was attended by the city’s most discerning, as a new era of art as fashion, and fashion as art was celebrated. A live Fashion theater performance directed by award winning Peter Richweisz left a lasting impression on guests as it brought their attention to the consideration of fashion in a new light.
