Jetsetters looking for a relaxing getaway might not have Milan in mind at first, but we discovered that even with the relentless hustle and bustle of Italy’s New York City, holidaymakers can unexpectedly find a tranquil oasis right in the middle of one of the busiest, and poshest shopping districts of Milano.

You would ask why the Milanese travel north to Lake Como on the Switzerland border to take a break when there’s a perfectly good place for that within the city walls.

Tranquil oasis in the middle of the city

One wouldn’t initially associate Milan with the word getaway, that is until they’ve set foot in the Four Seasons Hotel on Via Gesù. Nestled within the Quadrilatero della Moda, a paradise of high fashion and retail therapy, the hotel offers a place to unwind and rejuvenate with classic Four Seasons five-star hospitality without having guests go too far away from civilisation.

The Four Seasons Milan is a few minutes’ walk from the Piazza del Duomo

Housed in a former convent built in the 15th century which was renovated into an 18th century private residence owned by one of Milan’s richest families, the five-story hotel boasts of 118 luxury guest rooms and suites offering history, culture and a chic brand of indulgence. On the history and culture fronts, the Four Seasons Milan is a hotspot of well-preserved heritage and tradition, evident in all of the hotel’s design elements, from the architecture to the original, centuries-old wall paintings that combine to create an opulent experience for its patrons.

Space, views, and five-star service

We stayed in a Junior Suite, a spacious room with all the five-star amenities you would expect from a Four Seasons property. The thing we loved most about the room was the space, and the fresh, clutter-free interior coupled with whiteout walls as well as ceiling to floor glass windows on one side of the room certainly helped to make the room seem bigger.

It has a view of the main courtyard that frames the entire hotel, too, and that served as the perfect background as we succeeded in chilling our worries away.

But a perfect ambience must come with a level of service that parallels the physical beauty of the hotel, and we can definitely say that the service from the Four Seasons staff is nothing short of stellar. Any requests we had were taken care of within 10 minutes of placing a call to the concierge. Next Page >>
