Ringing in 2012 on the star-studded Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2)

Where to spend New Year’s Eve was quite the dilemma for us but we finally heeded to celebrate it on the RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), one of the most elegant vessels ever built in history, which was docked on the Port Rashid Cruise Terminal.

A bit of info about Queen Elizabeth II, often referred to simply as the QE2: She was launched in 1969, running the transatlantic service from her home port of Southampton to NewYork, breaking many records, including that of the longest serving flagship in the Cunard Fleet.  Countless members of Royal families, the aristocracy, politicians, stars, musicians and celebrities from around the globe have featured on her passenger list.  Following her retirement from service in 2008, she made a final ocean journey to her new home in Dubai.

And for the first time ever in the iconic vessel’s history, she opened for a stunning NYE celebration. The party saw luxury and style with international buffet, captivating entertainers, magnificent laser and fireworks displays, and an exceptional line up of international acts (including The Gypsies, The Bootleg Beatles, Drury Lane, and many more), to Royals, dignitaries, celebrities and VIPs. The event treated guests to a unique experience to welcome 2012 with an undeniable bang.

With limited tickets that went on public sale, the QE2 NYE remained an invite-only black tie soiree. Some of the famous personalities we spotted on the red carpet were UK aristocrat Lady Victoria Harvey, cricketer Allan Lamb, British pop group member Lisa Scott-Lee. Missing in action were confirmed guests Lindsay Lohan and Pamela Anderson. Missing, yes, but frankly not missed.

Check out the snaps we took while we were there. Happy New Year!
