VIDEO: Dior goes retro geek chic with new makeup video
Here’s something we didn’t quite expect from a high-profile brand like Dior: a makeup video that draws inspiration from retro games such as Pac-Man, Brick Breaker and at some point, even Super Mario Brothers.
Dior promotes its new range of beauty products through a surprisingly off-brand tactic, which, when you think about it, is not very much unlike Lanvin’s entertainingly awkward campaign for their Fall/Winter 2011 collection, featuring models Raquel Zimmerman and Karen Elson swaying quite uncoordinatedly to the beats of Pitbull’s I Know You Want Me.
For generating buzz, this video absolutely does the trick. More views means more potential customers. But how would this approach appeal to Dior’s loyal customers? Maybe it kindles their playful side? We can’t say. All we know is we want to give Dior props for not using the same old celebrity playing strolling on a golden wheatfield to dreamy music one breezy afternoon.
