Shopping in Munich: Maximilianstraße

Spending four days in Berlin could have tired our bodies but we could not say no to roaming around the laid-back but more elegant city of Munich as we were told about the must-visit shopping area of this Bavarian city.

We dismissed the ideas of going to Neuhauserstraße and Kaufingerstraße, both lined with large department stores and international chains. We opted to go to the quite posh shopping districts Maximilianstraße and Residenzstraße.

Given a map or GPS, remember that the Maximilian-Platz, a kilometre-long ribbon of style where sample-size fembots browse for Escada and Prada, is not the same as Maximilianstraße. Looking again to our helpful BlackBerries for guidance, we reached the perfectly manicured pavements of Max-Joseph-Platz decorated by Munich’s famous landmarks such as the Residenz and National Theatre.

Home to famous galleries, designer shops, luxury boutiques, jewellery stores and old buildings with old cravings of Prada, we felt very homey in Maximilianstraße. With the influx of oldies wearing the latest trends of the coming season, we were definitely in awe of the fashion that surrounded us in this district.

Maximilian street style indeed made our greatest memory of Munich, where people of age were looking greater and fresher than people who take their youth for granted. But never minding that, we commend the style of almost everyone who went through this district. It’s as if everyone was prepared to pay homage to Maximilianstraße – the heart of Munchener fashion and style. Travelers or otherwise, people who walked in this area knew what fashion is and certainly know how to carry it.
