Pick of the day: Spikes by Ruthie Davis
While Christian Louboutin and YSL are embroiled in a messy legal battle over who gets to make shoes with red soles – as though they make walking in heels that high any less toe-crunching – it’s time to check out a few other names the deserve the attention of shoe lovers.
One label we’re loving right now is Ruthie Davis’ collection of grunge-slash-medieval-armour-inspired pumps and flats, because no matter what New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn says, studs and spikes aren’t going anywhere.
Sometimes it’s great that fashion sheds its skin once every six months, but when you’re confronted with something as architecturally grounded as Davis’ creations, you want to keep wearing your favourite pair of potentially hazardous heels, no matter if they’re in season or not.
Fergie in Falguni and Shane Peacock dress, Ruthie Davis spiked pumps.
Besides, if somebody scoffs at you for wearing spikes, it’s easy to give them a lesson through petty and quite obvious means. And as the Ruthie Davis label enjoys impressive celebrity following (Leighton Meester and Lady Gaga come to mind), you won’t be alone in wearing outdated footwear when the time comes.
Ruthie Davis is now available at Bloomingdale’s Dubai, in the Women’s footwear department, ground floor. Prices range from AED 3,650 to AED 5,650.
