New Look celebrates British Fashion with SS2011 collection
Out with the old stay-15-minutes-and-it’s-over press days and in with the new celebratory fashion of introducing new collections. That seems to be New Look’s [and probably the rest of Landmark International's] new mantra of piquing interest in their latest wares.
Last week saw the official launch of the recessionista-favourite fast-fashion store’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection, and a typically boring press day it was not. Dubbed a “royal celebration of British fashion,” the event gathered the city’s chic gang, bloggers, and the usual parade of desperate-for-front-row magazine editors for a night of chit-chat, cocktails and high-street style, right on top of a London-set backdrop – double-decker buses and royal guards and all.
Lace is quickly losing its luster, but crochet has just begun to shine… again.
Held at an industrialist loft at Media One Hotel in Dubai Media City, the night peaked with a full-fledged catwalk show and culminated in a vocal performance by a local singer, ending the night on a beautiful note.
New Look’s Spring/Summer 2011 line featured 50’s inspired silhouettes, pleated shorts, espadrille pumps, ruffled off-shoulder numbers, and crochet dresses. If we had somehow forgotten that we were in a high-street fashion show, we would have remembered anyway as references to various designer collections went flying all over the place.
The most highly-pronounced nods went to Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2011 Chic Lolita theme and Dolce & Gabbana’s crochet Miss Sicily handbag, albeit reinterpreted as a delicately feminine dress. Browse through the runway looks in our exclusive gallery below.
