Reina launches swimwear line at Style Connect
Summer is just around the corner – it’s completely evident with the dizzying number of events dedicated to all things summer that dot our social calendar. But an exciting gathering that we’re looking forward to attending is Reina’s Style Connect – Summer in the City, happening tonight.
The event promises to sizzle with a stylish array of other local brands such as Dinz, NBar, s*uce, Senasia Spa and Zen Beauty Lounge, the proceeds of which will be donated to a charitable cause. Plus, the doll DJ from Virgin Radio, Simone Heng, will be spinning a collection of funky tunes to set the lively mood of this chic night. But, of course, the event’s highlight is the launch of the new swimwear line by Reina.
Reina is a three-year old swimwear brand designed and created by the lovely Rana Al Naqeeb. The label shot to Hollywood fame when it was featured in ABC’s hit reality show “The Bachelor Pad” and MTV’s “Jersey Shore” (never underestimate The Situation), which sent over 100 celebrities knocking on Reina’s doors, including Mischa Barton. The brand caters to young fashionistas that like to travel in style, care about their everyday wardrobe and lead a fashion forward lifestyle.
So, before we come to take a look at this hot event, we had an exclusive chat with Rana to discover more about Reina.
Why did you decide to design swimwear (or cruise collection)? What inspired and who influenced you?
Having studied the fashion market for a few years, and from personal experiences, I noticed that there was an untapped niche. Despite big jumps in the frequency and establishment of holiday resorts and cruises all over the world, there were very few brands that catered to the demographic of this growing niche in the fashion industry. Also my love for diverse travel destinations gave birth to Reina.
Have you encountered any challenges in running Reina? If so, what were these challenges? How did you overcome them?
Definitely and I love that I encountered challenges. When I overcome them it’s a sign of real success and it’s a real learning experience. I actually launched my brand during the peak of the economic crisis, buyers were cutting down on known designer brands to 70% leaving little or no room of emerging brands.
It was a challenge and I was able to overcome it. Other than small challenges, it’s important to always to keep up with technology especially with the advent social media marketing and what opportunities are available so you don’t miss out on them which could help your business grow.
Can you give us a teaser on what we can expect during the event?
The collection is inspired by the glamour of the world’s most exotic beaches and cosmopolitan trends for the fashion-conscious world traveler who wants to look at ease while remaining stylish and sexy. Offering couture designs, it evokes self-confidence and beauty in any woman. Offering styles that are both simply chic or dazzling in color and detail, each piece is sure to turn heads while on holiday.
As for trends for swimwear fringe is in this summer, so the main piece is the one-piece brown fringe swimsuit. I also designed a triangle and a tube version of the fringe. This season black & white color combo is popular, you will see an interesting wrap bikini with the color combination which is extremely chic! What’s great about this collection is that we offer different swimwear cuts to suit all body types.
Where are you stocked? Any plans of expansion?
Our clothing line for the previous collection was stocked in s*uce, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Designer Lounge in Kuwait, Cream in Beirut, and Al Sawani in Saudi Arabia. Our new swimwear collection hasn’t been launched yet. The event will give people a sneak preview of what is to come.
