Furla transparent Candy bag
Prada did it in Spring 2010, but knowing the brand’s luxurious positioning and the price tag that comes with it, the transparent, look-at-all-the-stuff-inside-my-purse never really took off.
We waited anxiously for the likes of Zara and H&M to come up with something similar, but you very well know that never happened either. But it looks like Spring 2011 is going to be the comeback of many things – of colour blocking, retro tailoring, and clear purses.
Furla is releasing a collection of transparent top-handle satchels, made from durable rubber (yep, we didn’t know rubber could be see-through either), that come in colourless clear and a number of refreshing tints, including passion fruit, acai blue and avocado green.
The rest of the world may not like clear handbags that show off one’s expensive possessions and compromise their security as they walk on the street, but that’s because they live in places where mugging is a lucrative career. With the very low petty crime rates we get here in the GCC, it’s relatively safe to get onlookers up to speed on how many bundles of dirham notes you’ve got in there.
It kind of reeks of conspicuous consumption, but so what, right?
The Furla Candy Bag is available online for $195 (~ AED 720) via the Furla e-store, and at local stores for AED 1,090. You can get in touch with Furla in Dubai at 04-3410285 to check if the collection when the collection will be in stock.
