Fashion News Round-up: Boutique 1 getaway giveaway, Rihanna spills Vogue cover, Miss Piggy to play editor at French Vogue
Boutique 1 weekend getaway: The UAE-based high-end boutique has announced a weekend getaway promotion in cooperation with the Pullman Hotel in Dubai to celebrate the 2011 Dubai Shopping Festival.
A lucky couple will win an overnight stay for two with breakfast at the Pullman, a 30 minute foot massage courtesy of Sanctuary Spa, and a $50 gift card to spend at Boutique 1 with the help of a professional stylist. What can you buy with that kind of money? We don’t know, but a free overnight stay at a luxury hotel should make up for the deficit in gift card value. British Fashion Council announces winners of Fashion Forward scheme: Meadham Kirchhoff, Peter Pilotto and our favourite from last season’s London Fashion Week Todd Lynn have been inducted to the Fashion Forward sponsorship scheme by the British Fashion Council. They will receive mentorship from the BFC and sponsorship for their next two shows at LFW, one in February and another one in September.
In an interview with Fashionista, Todd Lynn confides that the mentoring is the most valuable part of the sponsorship scheme. “The programs at the BFC are invaluable to designer growth. Besides the money incentive, and the recognition that you get as well, the mentoring that comes along with the award is quite crucial,” Lynn said. (Fashionista)
Rihanna to cover American Vogue’s April issue: Rihanna tweeted something she wasn’t supposed to, and everyone ate it up. Broadcasting to 2.8 million followers, the Umbrella singer said, “Just wrapped my first American Vogue cover shoot with Annie Leibovitz…Rah! #SEXY.” The tweet has since been taken down, but everyone knows about it already, and we’re quite positive Vogue won’t do another cover shoot, with another cover girl, due to this mishap.
Rihanna is set to follow a succession of annoying Vogue cover girls, which will be started by Kristen Stewart for February and then Lady Gaga for March. Here’s to hoping May will see Vogue put a deserving woman on their cover. (Jezebel)
Miss Piggy to play French Vogue editor: The bovine Muppet character is poised to play plus-size editrix at Vogue Paris in the upcoming Muppet Movie set for release in 2012. Is this yet another reflection of society’s desire to reform the fashion industry’s notoriety for size-ism? Or that to further break down its crumbling wall of exclusivity that some fashion elitists have been whining about? We’ll have to wait and see. (Vogue UK)
