Take home your tomatoes in a Birkin, or something like it
Have you ever thought about carrying home your Spinneys groceries in a Birkin? Or maybe not a real one, but a canvas-made satire of the world-renowned handbag? No? Well think about it now, because you can get one for less than AED 500, about a fiftieth of the cost of a real one.
Banane, a handbag company in Taipei, has released an eco-, budget-, and PETA-friendly version of the Hermes Birkin and we just love the cheekiness of it. It comes in that exquisite orange that we’ve all come to associate with Hermes, as well as other shades that really exist in authentic Birkins. There’s hot pink – Studio8 owner Sara Belhasa’s top pick, based on society photos we see everywhere – too.
Humorous fashion aside, some people are questioning the legality of it, but Banane is not exactly committing any sort of copyright infringement here. Maybe they bought all those Birkins, took really good photos of the bags and printed them on canvas shopper totes. If so, they own the photos they used to produce these bags, so nothing illegal there.
Besides, they’re not making and selling exact replicas of anything by Hermes, because last we checked, the French fashion house doesn’t parody their own merchandise.
Wouldn’t it be amazing to see a few lovely ladies toting these around while they run errands during the day? You can grab these stylishly utilitarian shopping totes for AED 460 exclusively at s*uce boutiques in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. For contact information, check out the s*uce website here.
