Dion Lee’s mental designs
Fancy wearing loud prints and giving everyone who sees you a psych examination at the same time? Look no further than Dion Lee’s latest collection. The Australian designer, who’s taken a liking to constructing sculptural pieces in a white, black and cerulean palette, let loose in his latest line of Rorscharch inkblot printed pieces.
And that’s when everyone took notice. Even Harry Potter film franchise star Emma Watson, who’s grown up to become some kind of style icon following her Burberry gig, and whose pixie cut we’re not really digging at the moment, was spotted wearing one of Dion’s frocks in New York.
Dion’s designs are so busy, in fact, that wearing them means you won’t have to make a problem out of accessorising. Throw one of these figure-skimming inkblot dresses on and you can forget about embellished belts and chunky necklaces. The vivid prints are enough to make a resounding statement about who you are and what you know about style.
The Sydney Institute of Technology graduate’s S/S 2011 collection shown at the Australian Fashion Week this year officially carved the designer’s name in the discriminating world of fashion. And who are we to ignore such promising talent? He won the 2010 L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival Designer Award, after all, and that accomplishment is something that goes a long way with us. Because we’re all about professional credentials and achievements.
We should lobby to get this designer stocked at one of our boutiques here, no? If you can’t wait until it becomes locally available though, you can head on over to Net-a-Porter to check out Dion Lee’s Spring line.
