Diane von Furstenberg visits Dubai
The opening of the first DvF boutique in Dubai, Diane von Furstenberg‘s latest foray into the Middle East, has left its mark in the emirate’s social history with a fabulous afternoon party thrown by Boutique1. The legendary designer herself flew in and graced the city’s VIP crowd with her mesmerising presence.
The venue was packed to bursting. Everybody who’s anybody in the local fashion scene – from socialite Lina Samman, bloggers Alanoud Badr and Huda Kattan, designer Aiisha Ramadan, and of course us (kidding) – was there, either taking pictures with Diane or queuing up to have their own copy of Diane: A Signature Life signed. Even Kanye West, who’s in town for a much-awaited performance tomorrow in Abu Dhabi, dropped by the newly-opened DvF store at Fashion Dome, Mall of the Emirates in leopard-print Louboutin sneakers.
We wanted to have a quick chat with Ms. von Furstenberg, but alas, it’s no easy feat for one person to entertain a store full of people, all eager to strike up a conversation and make a lasting impression, and still look dashing. We sensed that the situation could be a little overwhelming for the 63-year-old former princess of Fürstenberg – as it would be for any person in their prime – so we resigned to the thought of doing it another day.
We’re quite positive that’s going to happen for us.
