The Beauty File: Fragrant Fall

The end of Summer and the beginning of Fall in Dubai was all about perfume launches. Do beauty retailers think we smell or something? Sure, until mid-October it was hot, and people got all sweaty, but the torrent of new fragrances breaking into the market is like a very strong message that we just can’t ignore.

Swimming in a figurative ocean of floral oils, we sifted through the heap to deliver you the best perfumes that have just hit the shelves at your favourite beauty stores, so you don’t have to.

Lola Velvet Edition by Marc Jacobs

This scent, coming in a limited edition bottle, celebrates the first anniversary of the original Lola by Marc Jacobs perfume. The difference? It’s basically the same fragrant liquid inside, but the shape and material of the bottle (now in frosted glass) is different this time.

And the biggest aspect that sets this apart from the old one is that the flower ornament on the bottle cap is now made of – wait for it – velvet. The original one was done in rubber, and many people hated the texture. Nothing says classy like rubber, which doesn’t, at all.

For those who haven’t had a whiff of the original Lola scent, it’s basically a fruity floral combination with a vanilla and tonka bean base and top notes of pink peppercorn, pear d’anjou and red grapefruit, topped off with fuschia peony highlights and touches of rose and germanium.

This new perfume is all about contagious beauty and spontaneous femininity, about making strangers smile with just a glance, and about channeling a natural charm with every move you make.

We sure just the sound of it already makes you want to run to the nearest branch of Paris Gallery and grab a bottle, but wait until you take a spritz of this sophisticated scent.

Composed by top perfumers Louise Turner and Nathalie Cettogracia, Love, Chloé is a fine, powdery scent that is light and sensual. A blend of orange blossom and pink pepper acts as the top note, resting on tones of lilac, hyacinth, and wisteria blossom and a base of talc and rice.

The fragrance will be available from November 1 at all Chloé boutiques across the Middle East.

Arabian Nights by J del Pozo

This is something for our male readers, or for those who are looking for something give to their special man. J del Pozo’s creation is a tribute to ancient culture that has all the components of art – the Arabian culture.

A bouquet of elements has given birth to the masculine fragrance, such as the simplicity of materials used in lavish Arabian architecture, the artistic drawings used in carpets, the vivid colors used in Arabian women’s clothing, and the Arabs’ mastery of geometry.

All these elements affected the notes of the del Pozo perfume, ultimately concocting an olfactory rhapsody fit for the contemporary man of the Middle East.

“Arabian Nights is a personal homage to Arabian art, culture and exoticism, for which I have always felt a special admiration,” Spanish designer Jesus del Pozo explained. We feel a special admiration for those things, too, Mr. del Pozo!
