Revlon’s Gucci Westman in Dubai

By  |  2 Comments

After a dangerously fatal snoozefest that was the proper Dubai summer, it appears the city’s social-slash-fashion-slash-beauty calendar is beginning to go ablaze. The local scene definitely sizzled yesterday, as Revlon flew in their global artistic director, renowned makeup artist Gucci Westman to host a little makeup party at the Park Hyatt Dubai.

Staged at creekside al fresco restaurant The Terrace, this week’s major event saw Ms. Westman, fresh off a stint at New York Fashion Week for hotshot designers such as Oscar de la Renta, perform a demonstration with Revlon’s latest cosmetic products while at the same time conducting a casual Q&A with the local fashion and lifestyle press. And by local fashion and lifestyle press we mean an eager bunch of ladies with notebooks, pens and recorders at the ready, all waiting for that moment when Ms. Westman might drop a bomb of makeup wisdom.

Gucci Westman shows the audience how makeup is done. Huda Kattan poses for La Moda while rocking the season’s hottest trend: animal print.

Dubai’s red-hot beauty blogger Huda Kattan was the event’s emcee. She started out with a few of her own questions to get the ball rolling, but as it turned out, getting the discussion flowing didn’t really take much. Before we knew it, every English-speaking member of the audience was firing questions nonstop at Gucci. If you randomly walked in on us, you’d think it was Barack Obama standing up there on the bamboo-backdropped platform, facing a congressional inquiry for whatever political issue people think is cool to raise these days.

After the conference, Gucci, Huda and a few invited makeup artists volunteered their beauty services to some of the attendees, giving them the make-me-up chance of a lifetime. And that was it – the moment all the hardly-contained excitement burst. One doesn’t get to have an artist who’s worked with the likes of Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Garner, and Lady Gaga do one’s makeup everyday, you know.
