Aisha: Bollywood goes high fashion
Indian cinema is going to get splashed with buckets of glitter and an unhealthy dose of couture as Aisha, Bollywood’s first ever chick flick, reveals an unprecedented array of designer tie-ups with international fashion houses including Salvatore Ferragamo, Christian Dior and Chanel.
A modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma translated to Delhi’s high society, Aisha has become the first Bollywood film to have an association with Christian Dior to this extent. Vice President of Christian Dior Couture, Kalyani Chawla made reference to 60 Dior dresses and accessories which will be worn on the silver screen by female lead Sonam Kapoor and the other cast members. An example of this will be Sonam carrying a Lady Dior throughout most of the film.
Dior aside, Aisha looks like it’s going to be one hell of a fashion party – “Gossip Girl goes to India”, if you will. Revolving around the story of a Delhi-based fashionista, the film’s production entailed shopping trips to New York and London to drape Sonam’s character in a dreamy collection of couture dresses and vintage jewellery from Christian Lacroix, Chanel, Ayesha Depala, Manish Arora, DLF Emporio, and Portico.
Aisha opens in the UAE on August 5 and across the world the following day.
Dear producers, why don’t you include video footage of those shopping moments on the DVD when it comes out? Fashionistas like us would certainly enjoy those scenes as much as the film itself.
