So, who’s next?
In fashion, there is an old adage that goes like this “You’re only as good as your last collection.” That’s why fashion designers – youngblood or veteran – are always on their toes when it comes to proving themselves.
There seems to be a need for constant reassurance of creativity and skill as this fabulous world appears to give birth to fresh talent everytime, all the time. And, however much this world of glitz and glamour appears to be very exclusive from the outside, it is actually open and welcoming to those with savvy potentials. Remember how Vogue discovered Thakoon?
Here in the City of Gold where fashion is beginning to shape up to be a burgeoning culture, there are quite a number of opportunities for local and international designers to tap. Luckily, there is now a one-of-a-kind event that puts together all these unsung fashion geniuses under one roof. The popular Parisian fashion trade show Who’s Next & Premiere Classe will come back to Dubai from October 19 to 21 at its new venue, the Madinat Jumeirah, to showcase over 200 international brands.
Known in Paris for selecting the best ready-to-wear and accessory designers, show organisers WSN Developpement are promising a marvelous three-day fair with a dynamic program including catwalk shows, exhibitions and forums.
Also, on the last day of the event, doors will open to the public, free of charge, for a one-off shopping day, giving fashionistas an exclusive chance to take hold of a huge array of clothes, bags, shoes, jewellery and accessories before they even come to shopping malls. So, aside from giving international designers the chance to break in to the Dubai market, Who’s Next & Premiere Classe also paves the way for international brands to reach out to fashion followers in the city directly.
Following its success at Who’s Next & Premiere Classe in Dubai in 2009, this year’s event festivities give the impression of another big hit. For more information, do check out the Who’s Next & Premiere Classe website here.
