Who are you Erdem?
If a fashion kingdom were pop suddenly into existence, then Anna Wintour would be its supreme ruler as wherever Anna goes, the fashion pack follows, and whatever Anna says becomes a golden rule.
She is known, or feared, more like, for single-handedly making or breaking a fashion career and so formidable is her power that even the most respected designer or photographer can tremble in front of her (Clue: Mario Testino in film documentary The September Issue).
The infamous American Vogue editor was recently spotted wearing one of Erdem’s printed dresses at the Fresh Air Fund Annual Spring Gala held at Cipriani in New York, instantly giving her seal of approval for the world to see and transforming this rising star into hot property.
The label du jour has already dressed many Hollywood actresses and top models, including as Keira Knightley, Claudia Schiffer and Ashley Olsen, who raved about his elegant prints, puffed sleeves and billowing skirts, perfect for the red carpet and fashion events.
Born in Canada in 1976 to a British mother and Turkish father, Erdem Moralioglu – usually known by his first name only – studied fashion in Canada before moving to London in 2000 where he completed an internship at Vivienne Westwood and won a British Council scholarship to study at the Royal College of Art.
After graduating in 2003, he worked for Diane von Furstenberg in New York and in 2005, won the prestigious Fashion Fringe award, showing his first collection in London the same year.
